Bitterroot Ranch

Bitterroot Ranch fly fishing vacation ranch in Dubois Wyoming

The Bitterroot ranch is nestled in a remote mountain valley at the base of the Absaroka Mountains. It is 26 miles from the from the charming Western town of Dubois at the end of a 16 mile dirt road which passes mostly through Game and Fish habitat bordering the Shoshone National Forest and one cannot hope for a better place to enjoy a varied riding vacation. Run by the Fox Family for over 40 years, the diverse activities include trail rides in small groups of similar skills, riding lessons, pack trips, cattle work on our allotment in the adjacent national forest and fly fishing. The rushing stream full of trout which bisects the ranch provides fly fishermen with great sport.
The Foxes also own and operate Equitours Worldwide Riding Tours which gives the ranch an international flavor. French and German are spoken.

Lodging: Bitterroot Ranch can accommodate up to 30 people in 12 very private log cabins situated on either side of the stream which runs through the ranch. All have bathrooms and electric heat and some have wood burning stoves. Meals are taken in the 80 year old main lodge where there is a large library and a pool table which offers convivial evening entertainment.
Kids' Program: There are no special activities for children. Most enjoy riding and we have some excellent Welsh ponies who are a suitable size for children. We can accommodate a 4 year old on a lead line or a teenager who is interested in our cross country course. Children are not necessarily grouped together and can participate in rides that match their ability. A favorite activity for them is visiting our friendly Arabian mares and their young foals.
Food/Dining: We make a special effort to provide healthy and delicious meals. A hearty breakfast is made to order with home-made baked goods. We have a lighter lunch at midday and in the evening there is a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres and wine before dinner. We raise our own Scottish Highland cattle which are reputed to provide some of the best and healthiest beef in the world. We also serve lamb from our heritage herd of Navajo Churro sheep. There is an extensive vegetable garden whose produce we enjoy from early summer. Vegetarian and special diets can be accommodated with prior notice.
